Agartala, September 19, 2023: The Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM), a national platform of tribal rights activists, has started its three-day long 4th All India Conference on Tuesday at Namakkai in Tamil Nadu. The conference aims to discuss the challenges faced by the Adivasi communities in the country and to devise strategies to protect their constitutional rights and cultural identity.
The inaugural session of the conference was attended by AARM president Brinda Karat, general secretary Jitendra Chaudhury and other leaders of the organization.
In his address, Chaudhury stressed on the need to defend and strengthen the constitution, which guarantees the rights of the Adivasi people and other marginalized sections of the society. He said that the Adivasi people cannot fight for their rights alone, but need to join hands with other democratic forces to uphold the cultural and religious harmony of the country, which is under threat from communal and divisive forces.
The conference will also deliberate on various issues such as land alienation, displacement, forest rights, education, health, women empowerment, and cultural diversity of the Adivasi people. The conference will conclude on Thursday with a rally and a public meeting.
