Agartala,14th June 2024 :: A large number of job-seeking youth gathered in front of the Fire Brigade Chowmuhani here voicing their demands for the completion of the long-pending fire service recruitment exam. The protest saw a heavy police presence, culminating in the detention of many of the demonstrators.

The protestors expressed their frustrations over a recruitment process that has been in limbo for over a year. “In 2022, a notice was issued for the recruitment of 329 posts in the Tripura Fire Service,” said one of the protestors. “We were hopeful when the physical and written tests were conducted shortly thereafter.”

However, despite successfully passing the physical examination, the candidates have been left in a state of uncertainty. “It’s been over a year, and the oral examination, which is the final step, has still not been conducted,” lamented another demonstrator. “Without the oral exams, the recruitment process cannot be completed, and we are left in a limbo.”

The youth, who have been anxiously awaiting the next steps, decided to take their grievances to the streets in an effort to draw attention to their plight. “We are not asking for special treatment. We are only asking for what was promised to us—a fair chance at employment,” said one of the detained protestors before being taken away by the police.

Authorities have yet to release a statement addressing the concerns raised by the protestors or the reason behind the delays in the recruitment process. The detained individuals remain in custody as tensions continue to simmer among the job-seeking youth in the capital.

This protest underscores the broader issue of unemployment and the challenges faced by young people in the region, as they seek stable and secure job opportunities. The demonstrators hope that their actions will spur the relevant authorities into action, bringing much-needed resolution to their prolonged wait.
