Agartala, 3rd August 2024: In a coordinated operation based on a long-standing tip-off, the Madhupur police and Border Security Force (BSF) successfully apprehended two individuals involved in the illegal trade of country liquor. The arrest took place on Saturday morning in the Jam Chowmuhani area at Madhupur.
The suspects identified as Samir Sarkar and Utpal Datta were intercepted while traveling in a Maruti car bearing the registration number TR07A-0343. The vehicle was found to be carrying over 500 liters of country-made liquor, with an estimated market value exceeding Rs 70,000.
OC Debajit Chatterjee of Madhupur Police Station confirmed that the operation was meticulously planned and executed based on secret information. “This successful operation is just the beginning. We will continue our efforts to curb the illegal liquor trade in the region,” Chatterjee stated.
Following their arrest, Sarkar and Datta were taken to Madhupur Police Station and subsequently referred to the Sub-Divisional Courts. Authorities have revealed that several liquor sellers from areas such as Madhupur, Konabon, and Kayadepa have been supplying country liquor to Agartala for an extended period. The police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on these illegal activities in the coming days.
