“Journalist” accused of Rs 10 lakh job scam, promised Police jobs to five youths

Agartala, 5th November 2025:  A major scam has rocked Boxanagar after allegations surfaced against Joydul Hossain, the self-proclaimed editor of Boxanagar Press Club and a so-called journalist. Hossain allegedly took around Rs 10.5 lakh from five unemployed youths and promised them jobs in the Tripura Police.

According to the complainants, Hossain had been using his media identity for nearly a decade to exert influence and mislead locals. A few months ago, he reportedly assured five candidates—who had already cleared the 2022 physical and oral tests for constable posts—that he could guarantee them jobs for a payment of Rs 2–2.5 lakh each.

Claiming to have “strong connections” with senior police officials, Hossain allegedly called the aspirants and their families to his office, convincing them to pay an initial amount and promising full employment. However, when the Tripura government released appointment offers for 979 constables earlier this year, none of the five received jobs.

When questioned, Hossain allegedly gave vague excuses and promised to refund the money within a month — a promise that remains unfulfilled even after a year.

On Wednesday, the defrauded youths filed a formal complaint against Joydul Hossain at the local police station, sparking widespread outrage across Boxanagar.
