Journalists’ bodies, Agartala Press Club condemn attack on photo-journalist

Agartala, 15th May 2026:    Agartala Press Club, Tripura Working Journalists Association and Tripura Photo Journalists Association have voiced strong concern over the rising number of assaults on journalists in the state, following the latest attack on photojournalist Bijoy Debnath.

The incident took place today at the Radhanagar petrol pump in Agartala, where Debnath was assaulted by an auto-rickshaw driver after protesting against his unruly behavior in the fuel queue. The driver, enraged, grabbed a helmet from a nearby motorcycle and struck Debnath, leaving him bleeding.

Police have seized the auto-rickshaw involved, but the accused remains absconding. The journalists’ bodies and Press Club have condemned the attack and demanded the immediate arrest of the guilty driver, along with strict legal action.
