Journalists submit memorandum to Unakoti SP over safety, drug menace and misuse of Press stickers

Date:

Agartala, 15th September 2026 :Journalists of Unakoti district on Tuesday submitted a deputation to the District Superintendent of Police, raising concerns over journalists’ safety, the growing entry of drugs and illegal Burmese cigarettes, and the misuse of press stickers on vehicles.

The journalists sought prompt action over alleged death threats issued through fake social media accounts to journalists Bikash Kapali and Nazmul Hossain following their report on a narcotics seizure. An FIR was reportedly lodged at Fatikroy Police Station on August 29, but the journalists alleged that no visible action has been taken so far. They demanded that the accused be identified and prosecuted at the earliest.

They also urged police to intensify surveillance along border areas and key entry routes to prevent the inflow of drugs and illegal Burmese cigarettes.

The delegation further demanded strict action against individuals allegedly misusing press stickers on vehicles to facilitate unlawful activities, stressing that such practices tarnish the identity of genuine journalists and media organisations.

Journalists Bikash Kapali, Nazmul Hossain, Uttam Deb, Priyatosh Das, Shubhankar Das and others were present during the deputation.
