Agartala, 24th December 2025: The border town of Kailashahar witnessed massive unrest on Wednesday as thousands gathered to protest against the recent spate of attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh, including the public killing of a youth and the arson attack on a newspaper office.
The protest, organized by the Hindu Ekta Manch, began at Paitur Bazar New Motor Stand and marched through key streets of the town before culminating at the RKI ground. Demonstrators raised slogans demanding an immediate end to the persecution of minorities across the border.
Tensions escalated when a section of the crowd moved towards the barbed-wire fencing along the India–Bangladesh border near the protest site. Security forces, including BSF, CRPF, state police, and TSR, swiftly intervened to disperse the agitators and restore order.
Later, speakers addressed the gathering from a temporary stage at RKI ground. Social activist Sandeep Debroy alleged that attacks on minorities have intensified under Bangladesh’s interim Yunus government. He cited the recent killing of Dipu Chandra Das and the assault on press freedom through the newspaper office arson as direct violations of democracy and human rights. “The safety of Hindus in Bangladesh is in grave crisis. The international community remains a silent spectator. If this brutality does not stop immediately, border residents will be forced into a larger movement,” Debroy warned.
The protest meeting also urged the Indian government and global human rights organizations to intervene and ensure the protection of minorities in Bangladesh. The day-long agitation kept Kailashahar and its border areas on edge, though authorities managed to prevent any major untoward incident.
