Agartala, 27th March 2026: Kailashahar police achieved a major breakthrough on Friday afternoon with the seizure of approximately 35 vials of brown sugar during a raid near the embankment area adjacent to RGM Hospital. The operation, conducted around 1:00 PM, was based on confidential intelligence and involved a large contingent of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel.
According to police sources, the raid targeted the residence of Mithu Chowdhury, who managed to flee after receiving advance information. His wife, Mampi Chowdhury, admitted during questioning that her husband had long been involved in the illicit drug trade. She was taken into custody along with another suspect, Nirmal Malakar, a resident of Rangauti under Gournagar RD Block.
The raid was supervised by Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rughul A and Kailashahar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tapas Malakar. The incident has sparked widespread concern across the locality.
Police confirmed that a case is being prepared under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the detained individuals. Meanwhile, an intensive search is underway to apprehend the absconding prime accused.
OC Tapas Malakar stated, “We conducted this operation based on confidential intelligence. A significant quantity of brown sugar was recovered from the scene. Although the prime accused remains at large, our operations to apprehend him swiftly are ongoing. Strict action will be taken against the detained individuals under the NDPS Act, and we are currently investigating to determine who else may be involved in this syndicate.”
