Kalyani urges citizens to conserve fuel amid Middle East crisis concerns

Date:

Agartala, 22nd May 2026:  In view of the emerging situation arising out of the ongoing conflict in several Middle Eastern nations, Tripura Legislative Assembly Chief Whip Kalyani Roy on Friday appealed to the people of the state to conserve fuel and avoid unnecessary consumption of energy resources.

Speaking to media personnel at her chamber within the Assembly premises, Roy stressed the importance of fuel conservation at the present juncture and urged citizens to adopt responsible energy-saving practices in their daily lives. She called upon the public to prevent wastage of electricity, petrol, and diesel by taking simple but effective measures such as switching off lights and fans when not in use, using public transport wherever possible, and cultivating energy-efficient habits.

She stated that such collective efforts would not only help ensure the proper utilization of available resources but would also contribute to the larger interests of the state and future generations.

Referring to the ongoing roster system in government offices, the Chief Whip said most government employees work five days a week with prescribed office hours of eight hours per day. She urged employees to extend their working hours while present in office so that public services remain uninterrupted during the current situation. Roy also questioned whether significant fuel savings were actually being achieved through the roster arrangement, particularly for those employees staying at home.

Observing the increasing presence of private vehicles on roads and crowded marketplaces during morning hours, she appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel and give preference to public transportation over private vehicles. She also advised people not to step out of their homes unless absolutely necessary.

Meanwhile, uncertainty continues to prevail among the public regarding the availability of essential fuel supplies in the state. Neither the government nor the concerned departments have yet issued any clear statement on the stock position of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas in Tripura. As a result, while a section of people fears a possible fuel shortage, others continue their routine activities without concern, adding to public confusion over the evolving situation.
