Agartala, 17th June 2024: Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha announced today that the state government will cover the cost of treatment for all injured individuals and would provide an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakhs if any accidental death of Tripura residents is reported.
Dr. Saha said this after the Agartala-Sealdah bound Kanchanjungha Express met with an accident this morning.On X, Dr. Saha wrote that he spoke with Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Union Railway Minister has assured that all necessary support would be provided to the victims and their families.
“Spoke with Hon’ble Union Minister for @RailMinIndia Shri @AshwiniVaishnaw Ji regarding the collision of Kanchanjungha Express with a goods train in New Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. Hon’ble Union Minister informed me that rescue operations are in full swing and assured that all necessary support would be given to the victims and their families,” he wrote.Dr. Saha further said that the state government has been continuously monitoring the situation since morning.
“Tripura Bhawan officials have been instructed to visit the accident site to properly monitor the rescue and rehabilitation of accident victims. The cost of treatment for all injured will be borne by the state government, and in the event of any unfortunate accidental death, the state government has declared an ex-gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakhs to the next of kin of the victim,” he said.
