Agartala, 23rd June 2025:  In a concerted effort to combat the rising tide of drug abuse and trafficking, the Kanchanpur Subdivision Administration has unveiled a comprehensive awareness campaign to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking on June 26.

The initiative was formalized during a high-level meeting held on June 20 at the Subdivision Conference Hall, chaired by IAS Deepak Kumar, SDM of Kanchanpur. The session brought together key stakeholders including Subdivisional Police Officer Ashish Kumar Thakur, representatives from NGOs, school and college heads, and officials from various government departments.

“The growing concern over drug-related issues in the subdivision demands a united front. We are committed to building a drug-free Kanchanpur through sustained awareness and community engagement,” said IAS Deepak Kumar.

As per the official notification issued today, the main observance on June 26 will be held at Kanchanpur Town Hall where either the North District Magistrate or the Subdivisional Magistrate will inaugurate the program. The event will feature addresses by health professionals, rehabilitation experts and former addicts alongside cultural performances by students and local artists.

A cycle rally at Jampui Hill, street plays and leaflet distribution drives are also scheduled as part of the awareness campaign. These activities align with the national “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan,” which has reached over 14.79 crore people across India through more than 10,000 master volunteers.

Among the notable attendees at the planning meeting were Ranjit Kumar Nath, President of Kanchanpur Nagrik Suraksha Mancha; Sushanta Bikash Barua, General Secretary; and Dr. Jarymathiyama Panchu, General Secretary of the Mizo Convention. School principals, NGO leaders and departmental officials also pledged their support.

The resolution adopted during the meeting emphasized collaborative action to make Kanchanpur a model subdivision in the fight against drug abuse. As the global theme for this year’s observance urges—“Invest in prevention. Break the cycle.”—Kanchanpur’s initiative stands as a local embodiment of that call.
