Agartala, August 18: In a significant operation along the Assam-Tripura border, Karimganj Police have successfully seized a substantial haul of 6,100 illicit bottles of Codeine Phosphate cough syrup. The operation culminated in the arrest of an individual in connection with the smuggling endeavor.
Karimganj law enforcement authorities disclosed that the operation was initiated with a comprehensive naka checking exercise in the Churaibari region, situated along the Assam-Tripura border. During the evening hours of Thursday, a vigilant police unit intercepted a truck, ostensibly loaded with potatoes, arousing suspicion.
Upon conducting a meticulous search of the intercepted vehicle, officers uncovered a concealed compartment concealing the illicit cargo of cough syrup bottles. With a market value estimated at an astounding Rs 4 crore, the seized contraband represents a major disruption to the illegal pharmaceutical trade.
The driver of the intercepted truck was promptly apprehended by the police, and the truck itself was seized as evidence. The individual taken into custody has been identified as Biswajit Biswas, a resident of Tripura, and is now facing legal proceedings for his alleged involvement in the smuggling operation.
