Agartala, 31st May 2025: Despite minimal rainfall, the Kathalia Motor Stand remains waterlogged and muddy, making movement difficult for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians. The worsening condition attributed to years of neglect has raised concerns among locals who are struggling with daily inconveniences.
The motor stand located north of the Kathalia commercial area and south of the Gomati River under Sonamura subdivision, was originally developed under the previous Left Front government. Agricultural land was acquired and filled, followed by the construction of a two-story building housing market stalls and commercial spaces. The stand once flourished as a transportation hub, complete with a seminar room, bathroom facilities, a community hall, and a rest room for passengers.
However, since the shift in state government, no renovation efforts have been undertaken. Workers and local committees have repeatedly appealed to authorities, including the Kathalia Block Officer, CWS Doctor Officer, Panchayat Samiti, and the Gram Panchayat, for urgent repairs. Their primary demand is the restoration of the monsoon water drainage system, which remains clogged, exacerbating the waterlogging issue.
Despite persistent requests, no action has been taken, leaving residents frustrated as even light rainfall turns the motor stand into a muddy mess. The local people continued to push for immediate intervention, highlighting the need for proper infrastructure maintenance to restore the stand’s functionality.
