Agartala, 31st May 2025: An incident took place in Ward No. 6 of Kalikapur Gram Panchayat under Dharmanagar Police Station, where locals intervened in an alleged ‘sex workers’ gathering at the residence of Bijit Chakraborty.
Upon witnessing the gathering, residents promptly informed Panchayat Pradhan Sanjit Sen, who arrived at the location to assess the situation. After confirming the allegations, he contacted Dharmanagar Police Station to report the matter. However, an initial communication hurdle reportedly arose, as Shipra Das Pradhan’s number was blacklisted by the officer in charge of Dharmanagar Women’s Police Station. Eventually, a successful contact from an alternate number ensured the swift arrival of the Women’s Police unit.
Authorities arrested a man and a woman from Chakraborty’s house launching an investigation into the nature of the gathering. Locals have called for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences, emphasizing the need for administrative vigilance.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the handling of the case, Panchayat Pradhan Sanjit Sen criticized the role of Shipra Das, the officer-in-charge of Dharmanagar Women’s Police Station seeking intervention from higher authorities. The incident has also sparked outrage among the general public, raising concerns over law enforcement efficiency in such situations.
