Agartala, 31st May 2025: A serious allegation has been leveled against Dulal Debnath, chairman of the Santirbazar Agri Produce Market Committee (APMC) for allegedly staging the transfer of a shop owned by local businessman Shankar Patari to another party.
According to Patari, a resident of the Santirbazar Municipal Council, he has been legally operating his shop near the national highway for years, regularly paying rent and other charges to both the Municipal Council and the APMC. “I have all the necessary legal documents, and my ownership has been completely transparent,” Patari asserted.
Recently, a discussion meeting was convened at the APMC office, where Patari and his mother were present. During the meeting, it is alleged that Chairman Debnath stated that rent payments for the shop would be made to Patari’s mother, with the property eventually being transferred to his nephew.
Outraged by this decision, Patari approached both the media and the authorities, claiming that the move was part of a larger conspiracy to strip him of his rightful ownership. “My mother voluntarily transferred the shop to me, and I possess all supporting documents. Despite this, an unjust attempt is being made to take away my property,” he said, adding that he has already initiated legal proceedings.
An official from the Agriculture Department, when contacted, stated, “Since the matter is now before the court, the administration will refrain from commenting at this stage.”
The case has sparked concerns among local business owners about property rights and administrative oversight in market committees.
