Agartala, 11th July 2024: In a significant development following the high-profile murder of a club secretary in Agartala, Tripura Police have apprehended the prime suspect, Raju Barman, in Assam. He was brought to Agartala earlier today.
The Bharat Ratna Sangha Club, one of the largest social clubs in Tripura, was shaken by the murder of its secretary, Durga Prasanna Deb, also known as Vicky (35). He was shot dead at point-blank range on April 30 in the Usha Bazar area of Agartala.
Following the murder, police arrested seven individuals, including former club president Pradyut Dhar Chowdhury, Sushmita Sarkar, Uma Sarkar, Birchakra Ghosh, Sani Saha, Sandip Kar, and Rakesh Barman. Notably, Birchakra Ghosh, Sandip Kar, and Rakesh Barman were apprehended in Kolkata.
On Thursday, the prime suspect, Raju Barman, was arrested by Tripura Police in Guwahati and transported back to Agartala this evening. “We have arrested the prime accused, Raju Barman, and brought him back to Agartala. After preliminary interrogation, we will produce him before the court seeking police remand for further questioning,” a police officer stated.
