Kharchi Festival Begins Tomorrow; CM to Inaugurate Traditional Fair

Agartala, 2nd July 2025:  The much-awaited traditional week long Kharchi Festival is set to commence tomorrow at the revered Chaturdash Devata Temple (Fourteen Deity House) in Old Agartala.

Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will inaugurate the seven-day-long celebration today at 11 AM.

The grand inaugural event will witness the presence of several dignitaries, including Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor and MLA Dipak Majumdar, MLA Swapna Debbarma, and Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti Chairperson Jharna Rani Das, who will attend as guests of honor.

MLA and Chairman of the Kharchi Festival Executive Committee, Ratan Chakraborty, will preside over the programme.

In addition, Secretary of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, Secretary of the Tourism Department Uttam Kumar Chakma, District Magistrate and Collector of West Tripura Dr. Vishal Kumar, Jirania Sub-Divisional Magistrate Animesh Dhar, and noted social worker Rajesh Bhowmik will grace the event as special guests.

The Kharchi Festival is one of Tripura’s most significant traditional and religious observances, attracting thousands of devotees and visitors every year. Alongside religious rituals, a vibrant fair and exhibition showcasing local crafts, cuisines, and cultural performances will add to the festive atmosphere throughout the week.
