Kharchi to begin from June 26, final prep meeting held

Agartala: June 20. The 7-day long traditional Kharchi festival of the state is set to commence from June 26th at Fourteenth goddess temple, attracting devotees and tourists from far and wide.

The festival holds immense cultural and religious significance for the people of Tripura, and meticulous preparations are underway to ensure its smooth execution.

A final preparatory meeting, held today at the conference hall of the District Magistrate’s office in West district, brought together key officials and stakeholders involved in organizing the Kharchi Mela-2023.

MLA Ratan Chakraborty, Chairman of the Kharchi Utsav and Mela Committee, presided over the meeting, infusing it with his leadership and guidance.

Among the esteemed attendees was Manika Das Dutta, Deputy Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), Haridulal Acharjee, the acting Sabhadipati of West Tripura Zilla Parishad were present ensuring that the festival’s arrangements align with the needs of the local communities.

Biswajit Shil, Chairman of Old Agartala Panchayat Samiti, brought a grassroots perspective to the meeting, emphasizing the festival’s impact on rural areas and the significance of community participation.

Debapriya Bardhan, District Magistrate of West District, played a crucial role in coordinating the efforts of various departments and ensuring effective communication among the stakeholders.

Rajat Panth, the Additional District Magistrate, added his administrative expertise to the proceedings, focusing on matters of security and logistics. Representatives from departments such as Public Works, Electricity, Defense, Information and Cultural Affairs (ICA), Health, Tourism, and Drinking Water and Sanitation (DWS) were also present, showcasing the collaborative approach taken to make the festival a grand success.

The meeting served as a platform for officials to discuss and finalize the various aspects of the festival, including infrastructure development, crowd management, transportation, sanitation, healthcare facilities, and cultural programs. Every detail was meticulously examined to ensure a memorable and hassle-free experience for the devotees and visitors.

With the collective efforts and dedication of all involved, the Kharchi Mela-2023 is expected to be a resounding success, strengthening the cultural fabric of Tripura and showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of the state to the world.

During the meeting, MLA Ratan Chakraborty urged the officials of all the departments to ensure the smooth and organized implementation of the Utsav.

He emphasized that, like previous years, various departments have undertaken responsibilities for infrastructural development around the Fourteenth Goddess temple.  He requested everyone to complete their respective tasks by June 24th, highlighting that Kharchi Utsav is a significant festival for the state, attracting more than 10 lakh visitors annually.

During the meeting, officials from various departments put forwarded their respective preparations for the day-long Kharchi Utsav.
