Agartala, 17th June 2025: Khowai city in Tripura has earned the prestigious Ministerial Award as a Promising Swachh Shehar (Clean City) under the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. The award was conferred by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at a national ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
A total of 34 cities from across various States and Union Territories received this recognition for their notable achievements in urban cleanliness and sanitation.
Highlighting inclusivity, the revamped framework of this year’s survey ensured a level playing field for smaller cities, encouraging healthy competition across all regions. The “One City, One Award” principle was followed to honour top performers from each state.From Tripura, Khowai was selected as the State-Level Promising City. Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy received the award on behalf of the city.In a Facebook post, Roy expressed his pride over the achievement.
“Today, I had the privilege of receiving this prestigious honour from Union Housing and Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar Ji, in the august presence of President Droupadi Murmu at Vigyan Bhawan. This is not just a proud moment for Khowai but for the entire state of Tripura,” he wrote.
“Khowai has become a beacon for cleanliness, sustainability, and citizen engagement — a true model for building a clean, green, and modern Tripura. I wholeheartedly thank and congratulate the people of Khowai for this collective success.”
