Kishor Barman highlights need for skill, research and innovation in fisheries at CoF’s 28th foundation day

Agartala, 3rd October 2026 :  The College of Fisheries, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Lembucherra, celebrated its 28th Foundation Day on Saturday with a series of academic, institutional and alumni-focused programmes.

Tripura Higher Education, Panchayat and General Administration (Political) Minister Kishor Barman attended the programme as the chief guest. Techno India University, Tripura Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ratan Kumar Saha and Special Secretary, Animal Resources Development Department, S. Prabhu, IFS, were present as guests of honour. Prof. Debashish Sen, Principal, College of Agriculture, Lembucherra, attended as the special guest, while Dean Prof. Arun Bhai Patel delivered the welcome address.

The programme included the inauguration of the Boys’ Hostel Building Extension, a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) and a Fish Seed Rearing Unit. Teaching manuals and technology leaflets were also released.

Trophies were presented to winners of the Annual College Week–2026 in literary, sports, cultural and overall categories. The Student of the Year and Academic Excellence Awards were also presented.

A major highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of 39 alumni achievers of 2025-26 for their professional accomplishments in different fields.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Kishor Barman highlighted the college’s potential to serve as an education, skill and knowledge hub for Tripura and stressed the importance of fisheries in the development of a Viksit Bharat and the Northeast. He also underlined the need for real-life problem-solving education and stronger integration of knowledge, research, technology and innovation.

The Prof. J.R. Dhanze Memorial Awards were presented to the top two rank holders of the college in ICAR AIEEA (PG)-2026. The achievement of S. Dinesh Singh, who secured All India Rank 1 in Fisheries Science at the national level, was specially highlighted.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Students Welfare Officer M. Sanju Singh, followed by the National Song and National Anthem.
