Agartala, 3rd October 2026 : Police seized 176.8 kg of cannabis from a Maruti Dzire during a vehicle-checking operation at Nabachoumuhani in the RK Nagar area on Friday night. The driver of the vehicle was arrested in connection with the seizure.
According to Prasanta Kumar Dey, Officer-in-Charge of Bojrangnagar Police Station, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Arpan Saha was conducting routine vehicle checks at Nabachoumuhani around 10 pm. A white Maruti Dzire travelling from Ramchandra Ghat towards Manik Choumuhani was signalled to stop, but the driver allegedly attempted to speed away.
Police intercepted the vehicle near Nabachoumuhani market and detained the driver. During questioning, he reportedly disclosed that the vehicle was carrying dried cannabis. The Jirania DCM and forensic team were subsequently informed and reached the spot.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 17 packets of cannabis, with each packet weighing approximately 10.4 kg, bringing the total weight to 176.8 kg. Police seized both the narcotics and the vehicle bearing registration number TR07C0772.
A case has been registered against the arrested driver under the NDPS Act, and he is being forwarded to court, police said.
