Agartala, 6th June 2026: A 55-year-old labourer, Rabi Charan Debbarma, collapsed and died while engaged in REGA work at Dinbandhu Para under Abhicharan Village Committee in Lefunga Block, Mohanpur subdivision. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the locality.
According to reports, Rabi Charan was working alongside other labourers when he suddenly fell ill and collapsed. He died on the spot. Preliminary suspicion suggests that he may have suffered a heat stroke due to the intense summer heat, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
On receiving the news, the BDO of Lefunga Block, along with GRS officials and other administrative staff, visited the bereaved family. The BDO stated that Rabi Charan had arrived at work in good health but tragically passed away during duty. He described the incident as deeply unfortunate.
Officials assured that the administration is considering necessary assistance for the family and will take steps to provide financial support as per government norms.
Local residents have expressed condolences to the grieving family and urged the authorities to extend immediate relief. The sudden death has left the entire area in mourning.
