Agartala, 6th June 2026: In a major breakthrough against cross-border smuggling, security forces in North Tripura recovered a huge consignment of banned Yaba tablets before they could be trafficked across the international border.
Acting on information from the 97th Battalion BSF camp, Dharmanagar Police launched a joint search operation near the Raghna International Checkpost on Saturday. During the operation, officers discovered 48 abandoned packets near the barbed wire fencing. On opening the packets, a total of 9,427 Yaba tablets were found.
Police and BSF sources suspect that the consignment was stockpiled for smuggling into Bangladesh. Preliminary investigation suggests traffickers abandoned the drugs after sensing heightened security activity in the area.
The seized tablets are estimated to have a black-market value of around ₹50 lakh. The consignment has been taken into custody at Dharmanagar Police Station, and an investigation has been initiated to identify those involved.
Following the seizure, border security has been further tightened. The recovery has sparked widespread concern in the border region, highlighting the persistent threat of narcotics trafficking.
