Yuva Vikash Kendra, MY Bharat holds awareness programme against drug abuse in Agartala

Agartala, 26th June 2026:   Yuva Vikash Kendra (YVK), in collaboration with Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat) Kendra, West Tripura, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, organised an awareness programme on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Agartala Press Club on Friday.

The programme witnessed active participation from more than 100 youths from Agartala city, who came together to spread awareness about the harmful impact of drug abuse and reaffirm their commitment towards building a healthy, responsible, and drug-free society.

The event aimed to educate and motivate young people to take a leading role in combating substance abuse by promoting awareness, community participation, and positive lifestyle choices. The participants were encouraged to become ambassadors of change in their families, educational institutions, and local communities.

The programme was attended by several distinguished guests, including Dr. Arjun Das, Medical Officer; Dr. Vineet Chaturvedi, State Director, KVIC, Government of India; Er. Tapan Lodh, Chairman of Yuva Vikash Kendra; Adv. Anjana Debnath, Legal Advisor; Shri Ajit Kumar, District Youth Officer (DYO), MY Bharat, West Tripura; Shri Debashis Majumder, President of Yuva Vikash Kendra; Shri Pinku Das, Organising Secretary of YVK, along with other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, speakers highlighted that drug addiction has emerged as a major challenge affecting public health, social stability, and the overall development of society. They stressed the importance of preventive measures through awareness campaigns, education, youth involvement, and coordinated efforts among government agencies, civil society organisations, families, and communities.

The speakers urged young people to make informed decisions, develop leadership skills, and actively participate in initiatives aimed at promoting health, peace, and social responsibility.

Representatives of Yuva Vikash Kendra stated that the organisation remains committed to youth empowerment through education, skill development, volunteerism, livelihood promotion, and community-based initiatives. They emphasised that collective action is essential to address the growing concern of substance abuse.

As part of the programme, participants took a pledge to reject drug abuse, create awareness among peers, support individuals affected by addiction, and contribute towards a safer and healthier society.

The event concluded with a renewed call for sustained cooperation among stakeholders to strengthen anti-drug initiatives and empower youth to become responsible citizens and leaders of social transformation.
