Agartala, 24th August 2026 : A transport workers’ organisation on Monday submitted a deputation to the Transport Commissionerate in Agartala, raising concerns over decisions and regulations affecting the livelihood of auto-rickshaw, e-auto and e-rickshaw operators in the city.
A delegation led by the organisation’s convener, Amal Chakraborty, met the Joint Commissioner of the Transport Commissionerate and placed their demands. Transport workers affiliated with the All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation and CITU gathered outside the office carrying red flags and banners.
The protesters alleged that several decisions concerning city traffic and the operation of auto-rickshaws, e-autos and e-rickshaws were detrimental to workers’ interests. They demanded that no policy affecting transport workers should be implemented without considering their livelihoods and employment concerns.
The organisation placed two major demands before the authorities. It sought reconsideration of any laws or decisions it considers anti-worker and affecting auto-rickshaw, e-auto and e-rickshaw operators. It also demanded that measures concerning city traffic and vehicle operations be finalised only after consultations with transport workers and with adequate safeguards for their livelihoods.
Chakraborty said the deputation was aimed at drawing the administration’s attention to the long-pending problems faced by workers in the transport sector. He warned that if the authorities continued to take decisions without considering workers’ interests, the organisation would be compelled to launch a broader agitation.
The organisation said its movement for the legitimate demands of transport workers would continue, with further programmes to be announced if their concerns remain unaddressed.
