Agartala, 26th June 2026: Agartala is set to host the 9th edition of LiverCon, a prestigious scientific conference dedicated to liver disease treatment and research, on June 27 and 28 at the KLS Auditorium of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC). The two-day event is being organised by the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura and will bring together some of the country’s leading hepatologists and medical experts.
The conference will be formally inaugurated on June 27 at 5:30 PM by Padma Shri awardee Dr. Y.K. Chawla, noted liver disease specialist and former Director of PGI Chandigarh. Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte will attend as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests include NHM Mission Director Saju Waheed A., AGMC Principal Dr. Tapan Majumdar, and TMC Principal Dr. Arindam Dutta.
Scientific sessions will begin at 9 AM, featuring 13 sessions over two days. Around 25 eminent specialists from leading medical colleges and hospitals across India will deliberate on the management of 35 complex liver-related conditions. Among the prominent faculty members are Padma Shri Dr. S.K. Sarin, Dr. Mahesh Goenka, Dr. S.P. Mishra, Dr. Joy Varghese, Dr. Akash Shukla, Dr. Shantanu Banerjee and several others.
Key discussions will focus on metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), liver cancer management, liver transplantation, chronic liver failure, refractory variceal bleeding, and the impact of ultra-processed foods on liver health.
A special “Community Hepatology” session involving health workers and volunteers has also been planned. During the conference, the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura will release the “Agartala Declaration” on Community Hepatology as part of its efforts to make the state hepatitis-free. Around 250 doctors from Tripura are expected to participate in the event.
