Large cache of Burmese Cigarettes seized near Tripura-Bangladesh border; One smuggler arrested

Agartala, 23rd June 2025:   In a significant crackdown on cross-border smuggling, Tripura police on Monday morning seized a large consignment of Burmese cigarettes allegedly being trafficked into Bangladesh and arrested one individual in connection with the operation.

According to police sources, Bishalgarh SDPO Dulal Chandra Datta acted swiftly upon receiving a tip-off regarding the smuggling activity. The information indicated that the contraband was being transported in a DI vehicle bearing registration number TR07B1574.

Acting on the lead, SDPO Datta launched an immediate pursuit of the suspected vehicle. During the chase, the smuggler’s car reportedly collided with the police vehicle, leading to the smuggler losing control. The police succeeded in intercepting the vehicle on Harish Nagar Tea Garden Road and apprehended one suspect on the spot.

A substantial quantity of Burmese cigarettes was recovered from the vehicle. Both the car and the seized items were taken to the Bishalgarh Police Station for further investigation.
