Saha, a 43-year-old woman from Mahashakti Sangha, Jogendranagar in Agartala is battling end-stage kidney disease and requires an urgent renal transplant. Learning about her critical condition and financial hardship, Deb promptly submitted her appeal along with medical documents to the Prime Minister’s Office.
In a letter dated May 26, 2025, Deb sought the PM’s intervention and requested maximum support from the PMNRF for her treatment at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. The cost of the procedure has been estimated at ₹11.3 lakh by the hospital.
Responding to the appeal, the PMO, through a communication dated June 17, 2025, sanctioned ₹3 lakh towards the transplant. The grant cleared in principle is intended to partly cover the expenses, with reimbursement limited to 50% of actual costs or ₹3 lakh, whichever is lower. The hospital has been instructed to manage the financial procedures accordingly.
