Agartala, 22nd January 2025:   The Darlong community organized a special event to honor the late freedom fighter Dr. Chunilal Ghosh for his significant contributions to the development and settlement of the tribal Darlong community. The ceremony took place during the Rising Day celebration last Sunday evening in Chini Bagan, Unkoti ADC Village, within the Gournagar block.

During the event, Dr. Ghosh’s son was invited to receive the honor and the medal on his behalf. The tribute recognized Dr. Ghosh’s efforts in the 1950s when he assisted the Darlongs in relocating from the Belkum hills in Kailashahar to the Chini Bagan area.

“Dr. Chunilal Ghosh played an instrumental role in our community’s history,” said V. Darlong, Additional Superintendent of Police of Unakoti district. “His dedication to helping us settle in Chini Bagan and supporting our socio-economic development has left an indelible mark on our community.”

Dr. Ghosh’s contributions were particularly noted for his involvement in a legal battle against a sugar company that attempted to prevent the Darlongs from settling in the area. With Dr. Ghosh’s support, the Darlongs won the case and received a court order allowing them to live in the sugarcane garden area.

“His unwavering support during the legal challenges and efforts towards our community’s progress are why we’re here today,” said Lalminthanga Darlong, President of the Rising Day Festival Celebration Committee.

The event was presided over by prominent figures such as V. Darlong, Additional Superintendent of Police, Lalminthanga Darlong, and V.D. Darlong, Secretary of the Rising Day Festival Celebration Committee. It was a momentous occasion to remember and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Chunilal Ghosh, ensuring his contributions are not forgotten by future generations.
