Lawyer’s House Targeted by Alleged Intruders, CCTV Camera Taken Away

Date:

Agartala, 19th  August 2026 :   An alleged attempt by a group of miscreants to enter the residence of lawyer Debarchan Tarafdar in Gobindapur, a central locality of Kailashahar, late at night has created concern among residents over the law-and-order situation in the town.

According to the complaint, a group of around 10 to 13 people allegedly attempted to enter Tarafdar’s residence at around 2:32 am on August 18. Some portions of the incident were reportedly captured on the CCTV camera installed at the house. The camera was subsequently removed and taken away, according to the family.

Tarafdar said it was not yet clear whether the CCTV camera was taken away with the intention of stealing it or to destroy evidence of the alleged incident. He said the reason behind removing the camera would become clear during the police investigation.

The family also alleged that a fence at the rear of the house had been damaged on August 17, a day before the alleged late-night incident.

Since the residence is located adjacent to Ramakrishna Mahavidyalaya, questions have also been raised over the adequacy of CCTV surveillance in the college premises.

The lawyer’s family further alleged that despite making several calls to the police station during the night, police reached the spot after a considerable delay. However, the exact motive behind the incident and the identities of those allegedly involved have not yet been established.

According to police sources, the family lodged a written complaint at Kailashahar Police Station at around 2 pm on August 19. Police have initiated an investigation based on the complaint.

Investigators are expected to examine available CCTV footage and other evidence to determine why the camera was removed and identify those allegedly involved in the incident.

The incident has triggered fresh concerns over security in Kailashahar, with local residents demanding a prompt investigation and appropriate legal action against those found responsible.
