Agartala, 8th February 2026 : Former Chief Minister and former CPI(M) Politburo member Manik Sarkar today said that if a large section of the opposition truly wants the welfare of tribal people living in the ADC areas, they have no alternative but to join the Left Front.
He was speaking at a blood donation camp organised on the occasion of the DYFI Rajnagar Area Conference at the Students and Youth Bhavan in Agartala. The camp witnessed enthusiastic participation from youths. Manik Sarkar visited the camp along with CPI(M) state secretary Jiten Chaudhury.
After inspecting the blood donation camp, Manik Sarkar expressed deep concern over the prevailing political and social situation in Tripura while interacting with the media. He alleged that since the BJP came to power in 2018, people in the state have not been able to vote freely in any election. According to him, the entire electoral process is being systematically controlled.
Launching a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, Sarkar alleged that corruption is rampant across the state. He said that in the ADC areas, there is no work, no income, and no food. The living conditions of people have become so miserable that in some places incidents of children being sold have come to light. He further claimed that even tribal women are being forced to sell their children, which, according to him, reflects the complete failure of the state’s governance system.
Sarkar asserted that if people are given a fair chance to vote, the BJP would not return to power anywhere in the state. Speaking specifically on the ADC, he said that ADC elections are held every five years and the state government must conduct the elections strictly in accordance with constitutional provisions. He pointed out that the current ADC’s tenure is set to expire in April.
From a political standpoint, Sarkar stated that the CPI(M) would put up a strong fight in the upcoming hill area elections. He also accused Tipra Motha, which is currently in power in the ADC, of failing to address the problems of tribal people. “There is no work and no food in the ADC areas,” he said.
Emphasising issues of rights, development, and constitutional safeguards, Manik Sarkar concluded that the Left Front remains the only reliable force for the welfare of tribal communities.
