Agartala, May 11, 2023: Left women students and youth organizations joined the protest against the gang-rape incident in front of the police headquarters here on Thursday. Left organizations have directly accused the police of failure for the incident of gang-rape.
Rama Das, the leader of the Democratic Women’s Association, faced the media and raised the language of protest. She said that four people gang-raped the student of Ram Thakur College in a car on Monday last. This incident took place in Amtali-Khayerpur bypass area.
There are no words to condemn this incident. She strongly condemned the tenure of the present government and said that hundreds of women have been robbed of their dignity in the state of Tripura from 2018 to 2023. Left women’s organizations have repeatedly taken notice of police officials from the chief minister and state director general of police against these incidents. Demanded that strict action be taken against the incidents. But so far there is no cure. The justice is crying silently. But the present Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha told the people of the state that terrorism will not be tolerated in any way in Tripura. But Rama Das raised a question to the chief minister about how inhumane incidents are happening to women in Tripura?
But so far no word has been uttered from the mouth of the Chief Minister that strict action will be taken against such incidents. One demand for the Chief Minister and the state police is to provide security for women. Those involved in this incident should be arrested immediately and strict action should be taken.
To come out of this polluted environment, deputation was given to the West District Superintendent of Police on this day. Besides, Rama Das said that deputation will be provided from various divisions to the Chief Minister to demand protection of women.
Later, police action brought the situation under control. The police have assured that the incident is under investigation.
