Lefunga PS arrested auto driver for stealing cash from woman

Agartala, November 19, 2022: The Lefunga police station staff successfully arrested an auto-rickshaw driver on Friday last in the case of stealing cash from a woman, who had hired his auto-rickshaw for communication.

While speaking to reporters here at the premises of Lefunga police station, the sub-divisional police officer of Mohanpur sub-division Sabyasachi Debnath said that on November 17 last, a woman named Manasha Sarkar from Nepali Basti area under Lefunga police station got into an autorickshaw to reach Mohanpur market.

After reaching Tula Bagan, the driver took the woman to the Tula Bagan bypass instead of the main road. Then, even after the woman repeatedly asked the auto-rickshaw driver to stop, but he did not stop and went to a secluded place. The driver and another person in the auto-rickshaw beat the woman severely and took cash of Rs 6,000 from her possession. The driver also tried to steal a gold chain from the woman’s neck but failed, he added.

Debnath said “Yesterday, after the woman Mansa government lodged a complaint at Lefunga police station, OC Siddharth Sankar stopped the auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR07-2137 and arrested the driver Biplab Das from NC Nagar in Bishalgarh area and brought him to Lefunga police station.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sabyasachi Debnath said that on Saturday, the accused Biplab Das was sent to the court seeking remand and the other person who was in the auto-rickshaw, i.e., his accomplice in the robbery, has also been identified and the process of arresting him is also underway.
