AMC Mayor announced donation for children of cleaning workers

Agartala November 19: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder on Saturday announced of facilities to be provided to the children of the cleaning employees working under the corporation.

In a press conference at Corporation conference hall here on Saturday afternoon, Majumder said that it has been decided to provide annual education grant to the children of cleaning employees of Agartala Municipal Corporation. The workers irrespective of caste will reap the benefit and Rs 3,500 will be paid for male and female cleaning workers.

Apart from this, he said that the children of cleaning workers staying in different hostels for study purpose will also get financial benefit. Students of class I and II will get Rs 7,000 and students of class III to X will get Rs 8,000. All the children of every house will come under this scheme. Through this project, the children of the cleaning workers will be able to participate in education with everyone. They can work for the development of the state in the coming days.

The Mayor thanked the state and central governments for taking up this project. He also said that the cleaning workers used to work for many days on low wages. The Corporation board accepted their demand.

As a result of the new salary increase, all cleaning workers are getting more than Rs 9 thousand, he said. The Corporation is paying this amount from its own income. So far, 1087 people have applied to take advantage of the special scheme. Mayor Majumdar said that this project has been implemented to improve the quality of life of cleaning workers. The total number of cleaning workers is 2580 people while 500 health cards have been given to cleaning workers. Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, Commissioner Dr Shailesh Kumar Yadav were also present in the press conference.
