Lembucherra OC sparks controversy for issuing fines in casual attire outside SDPO office

Agartala, 19th October 2025:   In a startling incident that has stirred public outrage, Officer-in-Charge Ranjan Biswas of Lembucherra Police Outpost was seen issuing traffic fines early Saturday morning without wearing his official uniform, just days after a previous controversy involving his station. The incident took place directly in front of the Mohanpur SDPO’s office, raising serious questions about protocol and accountability.

Biswas, dressed in half-pants and a sleeveless vest was actively stopping vehicles and collecting fines from drivers, despite lacking formal attire. Locals reported that he showed no leniency, issuing full penalties to motorists. The timing on the eve of Diwali and Kali Puja added to the public’s dismay.

Local sources allege that while Biswas is zealous in issuing fines, his record on tackling drug abuse, trafficking, and other illicit activities remains unimpressive. The sight of a uniformless officer conducting enforcement duties sparked immediate backlash from residents and commuters, many of whom travel daily along the national highway that passes through the area.

The situation escalated when local journalists arrived at the scene. Upon noticing cameras, Biswas reportedly appeared startled and attempted to avoid being filmed. His actions have since drawn sharp criticism from the public, who are demanding intervention from higher police authorities and even the Chief Minister’s office.

“This kind of behavior is unacceptable, especially right outside the SDPO’s office. If the law applies equally to all, then police officers must also adhere to dress codes and conduct protocols,” said one aggrieved commuter.

The controversy follows another recent lapse at the same outpost, where the police station was reportedly closed after dusk, leaving residents without access to emergency services.

As calls for disciplinary action grow louder, questions are being raised about the role and oversight of the Mohanpur SDPO. Locals are urging senior officials to take swift and transparent action to restore public trust and ensure that law enforcement upholds the standards it demands from citizens.
