Agartala, 15th September 2025: Despite a change in government, the work culture at the Santirbazar Sub-Divisional Electricity Corporation remains stubbornly unchanged. Today, the office was found deserted well past noon, with no officials or staff present. Yet, ceiling fans whirred and lights blazed in empty rooms, a stark display of electricity wastage within the very department tasked with managing power supply.
Among the absentees were Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Pranab Majumder, departmental engineers and other employees. Frustrated consumers, many of whom had arrived with pressing electricity-related grievances, waited for hours outside the SDO’s chamber but were ultimately forced to return home without assistance.
Local sources allege that SDO Pranab Majumder, a resident of nearby Kalacherra, frequently skips office duties, drawing a full government salary while working remotely for much of the month. This pattern of absenteeism, they claim, has persisted unchecked.
The situation stands in sharp contrast to repeated directives from Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath and Chief Minister Manik Saha, who have emphasized punctuality, accountability, and citizen service across government departments. However, at Santirbazar’s Power office, these instructions appear to be routinely ignored.
Public outrage is mounting over both the misuse of electricity and the lack of administrative discipline. Residents are now looking to the Power department’s senior officials and Minister Nath himself to take decisive action against what they describe as chronic negligence and dereliction of duty.
