Agartala, 1st August 2025 : A live broadcast on social media promoting beef sales has sparked controversy and unrest in Kailashahar prompting the local unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to submit a memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer demanding immediate action.
According to BJP representatives, a man reportedly went live on social media yesterday announcing that four kilograms of meat would be sold for Rs 1,000 and revealing the location of the sale. BJP leaders allege that the meat was being sold near a teak grove along a road adjacent to Mabaswar Ali’s residence in Sultanpur, south of Baburbazar following the slaughter of cattle in the area.
Addressing the media personnel, Vice Chairperson of the Kailashahar Municipal Council and a member of the BJP state committee Nitish Dey stated, “The individual in question has previously been accused of inciting communal tensions. Locals claim he was involved in last year’s attack on the Baburbazar Sarbamongala Kalibari temple and an arson incident at the Baburbazar mosque just ahead of Durga Puja.”
The BJP’s Kailashahar Mandal Committee has called for the accused to be arrested and handed exemplary punishment to deter future provocations on religious grounds.
“We have submitted a written memorandum to the Sub-Divisional Police Officer. The police have already identified the individual and initiated the process of arrest. Our actions are aimed at preserving communal harmony,” Dey added.
Police authorities are reportedly working to keep the situation under control. Local leaders have urged the public and administration alike to remain vigilant in order to safeguard social peace.
