Agartala, 3rd July 2025:  A loan dispute reportedly escalated into a violent assault in Dharmanagar subdivision yesterday.

According to a written complaint filed with Dharmanagar police station, Almas Hossain, a resident of Phulbari in Churaibari has accused Sultan Hossain of Latugaon and his associates of orchestrating a premeditated attack to avoid repaying a loan.

Almas, who recently returned from Bangalore where he had been working for several years, claimed he had lent Sultan Rs 20,000 during his stay there. Despite multiple assurances, the amount remained unpaid. On July 2, Sultan allegedly contacted Almas and asked him to come to Latugaon to collect the money.

However, Almas reported that upon reaching the location, he was ambushed by Sultan and two or three unidentified individuals. The assailants allegedly assaulted him and made off with Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, a gold chain, and a mobile phone. Almas stated the cash was intended for a financial transaction with a previous creditor.

Police sources confirmed that a case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Officials said efforts are being made to identify and arrest the accused.
