Agartala, 3rd July 2025: In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics, Bagbasa police arrested a youth in possession of 10,000 yaba tablets during a routine naka checking late Wednesday night. The recovered narcotics, weighing over one kilogram, have an estimated street value exceeding ₹50 lakh.
According to police sources, the accused, identified as Abdul Ata, son of Emad Uddin and a resident of Rani village under Nilam Bazar police station in Assam, attempted to flee from a line vehicle upon spotting police presence. Acting swiftly, the personnel from Bagbasa Police Station chased and apprehended him, recovering the illicit consignment during a thorough search.
Senior officials, including Subdivision Additional District Magistrate Sandeep Debbarma and the Subdivision Police Officer, rushed to the spot following the incident. The operation was jointly conducted by the Bagbasa police team led by Officer-in-Charge Partha Deb and the Tripura State Rifles (TSR).
A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against Ata, and a detailed investigation has been launched to uncover the broader trafficking network. Preliminary findings suggest that the seized tablets were intended for distribution and may be linked to a businessman based in Dharmanagar’s Batarshi area.
Police sources revealed that Ata will be produced before the court on Thursday. Meanwhile, the arrest has sparked public concern over law enforcement efficacy in Churaibari—where the contraband reportedly passed undetected—prompting questions about vigilance and coordination at inter-state checkpoints.
