Agartala, 9th November 2023 :  In a fervent display of unity, residents of Madhya Champamura, a village under Bikram Nagar Panchayat in Dukli block, have rallied together to demand the release of a century-old gravyard from encroachment.

The historic burial ground, revered for its cultural significance, is now facing the threat of being replaced by a construction project.

Despite repeated appeals to the Waqf Board, responsible for safeguarding such sacred sites, residents claim that no substantial action has been taken to address the issue. In response to this perceived inaction, the local populace took matters into their own hands, surrounding the Waqf Board headquarters in a show of solidarity.

The encroachment, which has caused outrage among the community, involves the construction of a Kalimandi within the cemetery grounds. This blatant disregard for the historical importance of the site has galvanized residents to demand immediate intervention.

A protestor has emphasized the significance of the Madhya Champamura graveyard, underscoring its century-old legacy. The delegation, which presented a formal deputation to the Waqf Board, expressed the urgent need for resolution.

The residents have issued a stern warning that if their demands for the release of the cemetery and the implementation of measures to safeguard it are not met promptly, they will escalate their protest by joining a larger movement in the days to come.

The situation remains tense, with locals resolved to protect their cultural heritage at all costs.
