Agartala, April 9: In a startling development on Tuesday afternoon, residents of the Kanakpur area in the Nurpur village panchayat of Kailashahar apprehended four individuals suspected of unlawfully collecting funds under the guise of an ashram. The incident, which took place near the Gokulnagar Amlan Jyoti Sevashram in the vicinity, raised concerns among locals regarding potential fraudulent activities.
According to eyewitnesses, the suspects, identified as residents of Dharmanagar and Kailashahar, were allegedly soliciting donations purportedly on behalf of the Amlan Jyoti Sevashram, presenting identification cards and donation receipts to unsuspecting passersby. Their actions triggered suspicion among vigilant community members, leading to their swift apprehension.
Among those detained by the residents was Shubhan Debnath, while another individual managed to evade capture. Upon further interrogation, inconsistencies in the detainees’ accounts heightened suspicions, prompting the locals to delve deeper into the matter.
Following a thorough discussion, the accused individuals acknowledged their wrongdoing and extended apologies to the community members. Subsequently, they were released with a pledge to abstain from engaging in such illicit activities in the future.
Expressing concerns over the potential spread of such fraudulent schemes, community members emphasized the need for heightened vigilance. There are apprehensions that similar incidents might be occurring across various parts of the state under the pretext of the Sevashram’s activities.
Local authorities have been urged to investigate the matter further and take appropriate measures to prevent the recurrence of such fraudulent activities. Meanwhile, residents remain on alert, determined to safeguard their community against exploitation and deceit.
