Agartala, 14th January 2026: Tension gripped the No. 8 neighborhood under Srinagar police station after residents allegedly thrashed a man accused of abusing his elderly father and handed him over to police.
Local sources informed that the accused had been subjecting his father to physical and mental abuse for a long time. This morning, he reportedly assaulted his father again while intoxicated.
The incident drew the attention of neighbors, who intervened when the violence escalated. Enraged residents caught hold of the man and beat him before turning him over to police.
Srinagar police station staff rushed to the spot upon receiving information and detained the accused. Meanwhile, fire service personnel rescued the injured father and admitted him to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police officials confirmed that an investigation has been launched. Based on the father’s complaint, a case is being registered under relevant sections of law.
Residents have demanded strict punishment, saying exemplary action is necessary to prevent such inhuman incidents in the future.
