Agartala, December 23: A 21-year-old youth, Vishal Sarkar, was severely beaten up by a group of locals for allegedly breaking the window of a car belonging to Jagadish Das, a corporator of Barjala area in Agartala, on Saturday. Sarkar was rescued by the police and admitted to GB Hospital for treatment.
According to Sarkar’s family, Das had a political rivalry with Sarkar’s father, who supported him in the urban bodies elections. Das also accused Sarkar of taking loans in his mother’s name without her consent. Sarkar denied the allegations and claimed that he had no involvement in the car vandalism that occurred on Friday night.
Das, however, alleged that Sarkar was the culprit and led the mob attack on him when he visited his house on Saturday morning. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
