Locals locked Panchayat office protesting corruption

Agartala: September 20. Protesting against large scale corruption, the villagers of Dhupiravan Lalchara Panchayat locked Panchayat officer today in Dharmanagar sub-division.

The panchayat office was locked and closed, keeping the employees working in the panchayat inside, accusing them of corruption in various works of the panchayat.The villagers alleged that there was corruption in the road repair work of Rs 31, 688 in Ward No. 1 of the Panchayat, and there was also a huge corruption in the construction of toilets in Ward No. 6, this work was worth Rs 2.48 lakh but the money was embezzled from the panchayat head. Locals also alleged that panchayat members, RPMs are allegedly involved in this corruption.

Meanwhile, when the RPM of the panchayat was asked about this, he did not hesitate to clean himself up, he also tried to hide the real truth claiming that bricks used for construction were stolen infront of the panchayat, but no complaint was made at the administrative level in this regard. Even though such allegations of corruption are raised against one village panchayat continuously, no investigation is being done.
