Agartala, 31st December 2024: Despite claims of significant improvements in the state’s healthcare sector by ministers, the reality on the ground tells a different story. The severe shortage of doctors at the Ampi Community Health Centre (CHC) has led frustrated locals to block the road in protest.
Residents gathered to voice their concern over the dire situation at the health centre, which operates with only one doctor. “We only have one doctor here,” said a local. “And he often has to leave for various government duties. This leaves us without proper medical care.”
Due to the lack of available medical services, residents have to travel to Agartala’s GB or IGM hospitals for treatment, which is not feasible for many. The situation reached a boiling point on Tuesday when locals learned that Dr. Satyajit Pal, the sole doctor, had been transferred. In response, residents staged a road blockade, demanding that Dr. Pal be brought back to the CHC.
The protest escalated, prompting the police to intervene. “We won’t lift the blockade until Dr. Pal is reinstated,” declared a resident, echoing the community’s collective stance.
The incident highlights the urgent need for adequate healthcare facilities and personnel in remote areas, reflecting the gap between governmental promises and the actual state of healthcare services.
