Agartala, 7th February 2024: Szarita Laitphlang, the national secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and the party’s Tripura in-charge, asserted on Wednesday that the Congress is well-prepared for the upcoming elections. She emphasized the party’s unwavering commitment to fighting for the rights of the people, regardless of the challenges it may face.
Addressing reporters during a press conference in Agartala this morning, Laitphlang shared that KPS Rana and Iven D’Souza from the AICC screening committee conducted meetings in the state yesterday. These discussions involved engaging with party workers and karyakartas who expressed their hope for Congress participation in the Lok Sabha elections. For those unable to attend, a separate session was held this morning to gather their input.
“We are actively seeking the viewpoints of every karyakarta, and the screening committee will compile a report based on their feedback to be sent to Delhi. After collecting necessary documents, another meeting will be convened in Delhi. The Central Election Committee will then make the final decision on our course of action and the INDI alliance. Subsequently, we will announce the list of our candidates, emphasizing a democratic process to ensure everyone’s voice is heard,” she informed reporters.
Responding to queries about the Congress stance on collaborating with the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPIM) for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Szarita stated, “We are awaiting directions from the Central leadership on how we can collaborate with CPIM. Our aim is to jointly contest the Lok Sabha election against the BJP, advocating for the rights of the people. More than 200 workers participated in meetings with the screening committee and senior party leadership, putting forward numerous names. These will be shortlisted in Delhi. Congress is fully prepared for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, steadfast in our commitment, regardless of the challenges we may encounter. Our fight is for the rights of the people.”
