Agartala, 25th January 2025:   A long-distance bus traveling from Agartala to Udaipur was detained on Saturday afternoon following multiple allegations, including the assault of ICFAI University students and misbehavior with passengers in Bishalgarh. The bus was stopped by concerned citizens and the bus contactor at Bishalgarh.

Bishalgarh police, along with MLA Sushanta Deb swiftly arrived at the scene following reports of the incident. The accused contactor fled the scene before authorities could apprehend him. This incident comes amidst growing complaints from passengers about the conduct of bus contactors towards Bishalgarh residents.

It was reported that contactors from Agartala, Udaipur, Santirbazar, Sonamura, Melaghar and other areas had been using various excuses to refuse boarding to passengers from Bishalgarh. These actions have particularly affected school and college students, as well as disabled individuals.

Arnab Roy, a third-year student of ICFAI University in Bishalgarh and Tanushree Saha were among those who reported misbehavior by the contactors. Outraged students and local residents united to detain the Agartala-Udaipur-bound vehicle numbered TR03-1381 and named Sampak in response to the attacks on the students.

Speaking to the media, the affected students highlighted that Bishalgarh passengers had been facing increasing misbehavior from bus contactors, despite previous assurances from transport authorities to address the issue.

MLA Sushanta Deb announced that a meeting would be held with the owners of long-distance buses and organization leaders to discuss the incident and prevent future occurrences. “I will not tolerate any insult to any person from Bishalgarh. We will ensure that those who voted for me and supported me are treated with respect,” Deb stated.

The Bishalgarh police have initiated an investigation into the incident, while efforts continue to locate the absconding contactor. The police have urged the public to report any further instances of misconduct and assured that stringent actions will be taken against those found guilty.

“The safety and dignity of our passengers are paramount. We are committed to preventing such incidents and ensuring a respectful environment for everyone,” added MLA Sushanta Deb.
