Agartala, 27th January 2026: Opposition Leader Jitendra Chaudhury on Tuesday appealed to people from all walks of life to come together for the revival of democratic norms in the state, while addressing the central conference of the Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad scheduled for January 29.
During his address, Chaudhury expressed concern over what he described as the gradual erosion of democratic rights under the prevailing situation. He said that shrinking democratic space has become a serious issue and requires collective resistance.
He stressed that a united movement is essential to protect citizens’ rightful demands, freedom of speech, and democratic institutions. According to him, safeguarding these values should be a shared responsibility of all sections of society.
Chaudhury also accused certain forces of promoting divisive politics to create discord among the people, calling for a determined fight against such tendencies to uphold the Constitution and democratic principles.
Highlighting the significance of the Tripura Rajya Upajati Ganamukti Parishad, he said the organization has a crucial role in leading this movement. He urged the delegates attending the conference to further strengthen the organization and expand the struggle for the restoration of democracy at every level, from rural areas to urban centres.
