Agartala, 25th November 2024:  The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) is poised to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) at Agartala Land Port (ICP) tomorrow. This initiative aims to revolutionize the cross-border trade and security framework, enhancing efficiency and cooperation. The inauguration ceremony will be graced by LPAI Chairman Aditya Mishra, IPS.

The LPAI operates three state-of-the-art land ports on the Bangladesh border in Tripura, specifically Agartala, Srimantarpur, and Sabroom. These ports are critical in facilitating cross-border trade and communication. Agartala Land Port (ICP Agartala), situated in the Municipal Corporation area of the capital city Agartala, was inaugurated on November 17, 2013, and has since emerged as a key intra-border trade hub. It facilitates the movement of goods and passengers between India and Bangladesh. Agartala ICP has established itself as the second busiest land port between the two countries after Petrapole-Benapole, handling trade worth Rs 318 crore in the financial year 2023-24.

The introduction of the new LPMS at Agartala Land Port is expected to bolster bilateral trade and promote regional cooperation. Operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the LPAI is focused on developing infrastructure along the Indian border to ensure security and streamline the movement of trade and people.

The LPMS is a cutting-edge technological system designed to create a seamless, single-window system for land port operations. It integrates smart technology to digitize all processes, offering features such as slot booking facilities, integrated payment across various sectors, and automation of port operations through a streamlined controller and single platform.

“This innovative system will significantly reduce costs, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure safety and compliance at India’s land ports,” said an LPAI spokesperson. “The LPMS will act as a catalyst for economic growth, strengthen regional connectivity, and position Indian land ports as strategic gateways for trade and communication with the South Asian region.”

The implementation of LPMS marks a major step towards modernizing India’s land port operations, promising to transform the way cross-border trade and security are managed, and paving the way for future advancements in this crucial sector.
