Retired police officer crushed to death at Udaipur

Agartala, 25th November 2024:  A tragic incident took place at around 10:45 am on Monday when a retired police officer Shimul Saha (70) was crushed to death by a truck on Loknath Ashram Road in Chanban under Udaipur sub-division. Saha was cycling home to Gokulpur School Tilla from Udaipur when he fell under the wheels of the truck.

Local residents immediately informed the Udaipur Fire Department. Firefighters quickly arrived, recovered the body, and transported it to Gomati District Hospital, where doctors conducted various tests and placed the body in the morgue.

According to police sources, the truck bearing registration number TR03-1899 was seized by Radha Kishore Pur police station from the grounds of Udaipur Girls School. The driver fled the scene and is currently being sought by the police. District Police Superintendent Namit Pathak, Additional Police Superintendent Sauvik De, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nirman Das and forensic team representatives visited the scene.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer Das assured that the driver would be arrested soon. The body of the retired police officer will be handed over to his family following an autopsy. Radha Kishore Pur police station has initiated an investigation into the incident.
